Want Something Slightly Different for Your Windows?
What Exactly Are Window Treatments?
Like the phrase states, window treatments can be so much more than just simple window coverings. Treating windows is said to be packaging them, and they have an aesthetic as well as covering function. Coverings can be used for the likes of privacy, insulating against the heat or cold, filtering light, and many people consider them more aesthetic; however, they can be all of the above and more.
Even though having a window treatment is more about decoration, this phrase has since then evolved and is now regularly used to describe most window coverings. Drapes, curtains, sheers, blinds, shutters, cornices and valances are all prime examples of basic treatments for windows. More than one can be combined into a design plan, although the use of layered treatments can be both stylish and functional.
For instance, if you decide to choose light-filtering blinds, for the obvious reasons, you could also install a valance in order to soften the lines or just to add a bit of color. Or, you could layer more than one treatment in order to create a more dramatic look. Consider using floor length curtains, in addition to a cornice. Some designs combine several layers, ranging from room darkening shades that will filter light through at particular times in the day to sheers that bring in light in at other times. Topping this can be drapes made from a luxurious material.
You could choose a basic treatment and incorporate it in something which is not so traditional, or maybe you prefer to forego all the traditional treatments. A popular treatment for those people that like the look of clean lines is a vinyl covering which apes the look of frosted or textured glass, or some type of etching compound which will permanently change your windows. This is an excellent way to create privacy, in place of putting up windows. However, in order to make this treatment more decorative, try suspending a panel of stained glass in front of your etched window.
